Redang Island / Pulau Redang
Destinations Within Malaysia
Located
about 45km off the North Eastern coast of Peninsula Malaysia
Still relatively undeveloped and unspoiled, Redang Island provides excellent
opportunities for snorkelling, scuba diving and jungle trekking to keep you
occupied or just relaxing along the glistening white beaches.
The best beaches are probably those located at Teluk Dalam ('Deep Water Bay').
This bay has 2 distinct stretches of beach, one at Teluk Dalam Kecil where the
renowned Berjaya Beach Resort is located and the other at Teluk Dalam Besar
where there are currently no resorts. The water here is clear and calm with
sandy bottom which is excellent for swimming.

The 2 most established resorts on Redang are the Berjaya Redang Beach Resort and
Laguna Redang Island Resort. Laguna is located on the busier Long Beach shared
with several smaller resorts whereas Berjaya Redang enjoys their own beach
surrounded by a bay.
The Redang Island is designated as a Marine Park where fishing and collection of
corals as well as aquatic life within 3.2 km radius of the island is prohibited.
The islands special treasures are its crystal clear waters where exotic marine
life flourish with diverse species of reef building corals and bivalves as well
as water squirting anemones, table corals, rainbow coloured clams, hard and soft
corals.

The waters around the island are usually crystal clear although visibility can
drop dramatically after a storm and home to a host of sea creatures including
turtles and reef tip sharks.
Snorkelling is the number one activity on Redang. Many resort packages include
snorkeling tours by boat to nearby islands. Best spots are at the southern end
next to the aptly named Redang Reef Resorts. Others are to be found at the
nearby islets of Pulau Ekor Tebu, Pulau Pinang and Pulau Lima while Tanjung
Lang, Tanjung Tokong, Tanjung Gua Kawah, Pasir Panjang and Batu Mak Cantek make
fabulous dive sites.
Apart from marine activities, one can also explore the nature trails at its
northern part and visit the rustic fishing villages built on stilts above the
waters edge. Here, enjoying the sunset with its dramatic metamorphosis of warm,
rusty hues against the horizon is a breathtaking sight.
