Within
Kuala Lumpur city centre are a number of places of interest to visit. These
include unique shopping in places such as Chinatown and the Central Market, or
to the interesting places of worship that reflect the religious and cultural
diversity of the city such as the Jamek Mosque, Sri Mahamariamman Temple, and
the Thean Hou Temple. For world class structures, there is the eye catching
Petronas Twin Towers as well as the KL Tower. Other interesting sights include
Merdeka Square, The National Palace and the colonial styled old railway station
Chinatown
/ Petaling Street
A must for any tourist and a bargain hunter's paradise,
particularly at night when vendors spread their wares out on the street. With
its distinctly oriental atmosphere, from early afternoon till late at night, the
entire street is cluttered with stalls peddling all manner of goods from under
the sun...

Central Market
The many shops housed in this heritage building
offer antique, curios, batik, pewter ware, woodcarvings, gems, handicrafts,
souvenirs and a lot more....
Jamek Mosque / Masjid Jamek
Inspired
by the Mogul architecture of India, this striking red-brick marble building is
the oldest mosque in the city and is located at the confluence of the two river
from which the city gets its name....

Sri Maha Mariamman Temple
This intriguing Hindu temple has decorative
features such as intricate carvings of Hindu deities, gold embellishments,
precious stones and hand-painted motifs depicting stories from early Hinduism....
Thean
Hou Temple
With decorative beams, spectacular roofs,
ceilings, calligraphic couplets, and murals, the temple reflects the elements of
Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism....

The PETRONAS Twin Towers
At
a height of 1,483ft (451.9m) they rise
like sentinels in the heart
of Kuala Lumpur. It is the tallest twin towers in the
world and lay claim to being the world's tallest high rise of the 20th century.....

KL Tower / Menara KL
Majestically poised at a breathtaking
height of 421 metres, it is the tallest tower in Southeast Asia and ranks fifth
amongst the tallest telecommunications towers in the world....

Merdeka Square /
Dataran Merdeka
Dataran Merdeka (Independence Square) was the place where on the Union Jack was
lowered for the last time and Malayan flag was hoisted for the first time upon
gaining independence.
Surrounding the square are many buildings of historical interest, such as the
Royal Selangor Club, the Sultan Abdul Samad building, St. Marys church and the
National History Museum....
National Palace / Istana Negara
Istana Negara or National Palace is
the official residence of His Majesty, the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, the King of
Malaysia. Royal Guards, dressed in ceremonial uniforms, guard the main gate on
horse and on foot....
