BBC or Borneo Baruk Club
Relatively new, it gets its name from the Bidayuh tribal language - Baruk which
basically means a house where warriors convene after a hunt or a war party. The
building replicates a Borneo longhouse with striking totem poles in black and
white motifs as well as a uniquely structured Baruk house featuring a round
rooftop and multiple pillars arranged in a circle. Divided into two floors with
modern decor fused with ethnic motifs, and rainforest theme. There is an
enclosure modelled to look like the Mulu Cave in Sarawak and a 100-year-old
native kayak suspended from the ceiling along with a pleasantly landscaped
toilet environment.
The crowd here is a mix of locals including those from Sabah and Sarawak, as
well as foreigners. The music here is retro, R&B, as well as some new tunes. The
band (The Trend Band - All the way from Trinidad and Tobago) starts at 9pm and
plays a mix of reggae, latino and retro music. To Sum it up - Catchy tunes, cool
DJs, gyrating bodies and sexy figures. You can also get to try Tuak or Tapai,
which is the local native liquor brew of Borneo.
The place also provides Sarawakian. local and western food. Try out authentic
Sarawak laksa and curry mee. complete with peppercorn brought in from Borneo -
they do pack a wallop where spiciness is concerned. For those with a taste for
Western fare, there are various meals to choose from, including a barbeque
spread which offers chicken, lamb and steak. There is also a dish called Hot Hot
Dog' which is basically a 12-inch chicken corizo sausage served with salad and
potato on the side.
