Majestically poised at a breathtaking height of 421 metres, Menara Kuala Lumpur or "KL Tower" is one of the tallest concrete towers in the world. Situated on higher ground atop Bukit Nanas at 94m above sea level, it is on whole higher than the Petronas Twin Towers with its top being at 515 metres above sea level.




Menara Kuala Lumpur was constructed as a telecommunications tower to upgrade the quality of telecommunications and the clarity of broadcast transmissions, it is the tallest tower in Southeast Asia and ranks fifth amongst the tallest telecommunications towers in the world
 

Built with 45,000 cubic metres of sturdy concrete it is designed with vertical ribs on the external surface, it was constructed over a period of four years and was completed in May 1996. The Tower weighs 100,000 tonnes and was built on no-piling, freestanding land and is designed to withstand wind pressures of up to 90mph.

The KL Tower is the fifth tallest telecommunication tower in the world after the CN Tower in Canada, the Ostankino Tower in Russia, the Oriental Pearl Tower in China, and the Borj-e Milad in Iran



Architecture
The Tower's architecture reflects the country's Islamic heritage with the construction detailing classic Islamic floral and abstract motifs and soothing color combinations and with an overall glass arrangement in the traditional Islamic form of the "Muqarnas". The arrangement of glasses on the domes of the lobby entrance illustrate the 7 layers of the sky with sun rays shining from the middle. The designs also represent the human journey for perfection in life.
